The Chamber of Crafts and Skilled Trades Münster (HWK Münster) is a corporate body under public law that serves the self-government of the trades and crafts, which means that the trades and skilled crafts regulate their own affairs through the Chamber. The Chamber represents the interests of 24,500 handicraft establishments with 160,000 employees and 19,000 trainees in its administrative district.
HWK Münster’s Vocational Education Centre (HBZ) is one of the biggest trade training centres in Germany, with 1,870 training places and 13,000 students annually. The training offered comprises vocational education, from practical training to further education up to academic knowledge. The training centre established its success by focussing on innovative, future-oriented knowledge. Many training offers were developed in the framework of national and European programmes.
Training, information dissemination and consultancy are the main fields of activity of Centre of Competence of Building and Energy, situated in the Demonstration Centre of Building and Energy of Münster’s Chamber of Crafts.

Role in the CAP'EM project
|
Because of their experience with assembling the exhibition in the Centre of Competence HWK leads the design of the eco-material exposition showrooms in the CAP’EM network (Work Package 4).
Also under Work Package 4, HWK Münster will refurbish an old farmhouse next to the premises of its vocational training centre. The farmhouse will include a CAP’EM showroom and training facilities. The refurbishment itself will maximise use of ecological building materials to provide a real demonstration of what is on display in the showroom. This project will specifically demonstrate how eco-materials can be used in the renovation of a heritage listed building, with all the associated constraints.
